Mr.  Fabio Hernandez has been working in the field of computing services for  research in high energy physics research for most than 30 years.  Affiliated to IN2P3/CNRS, the French national institute for nuclear  physics and particle physics, he is currently leading the team preparing  the institutional computing center’s infrastructure for contributing to  the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) of the Vera C. Rubin  Observatory.

Prior to that position, he was a  senior international visiting scientist at the Institute of High Energy  Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences based in Beijing  (China). During his stay he served as an expert in the Office  for science and technology of the Embassy of France in China.

In  his role as technical leader of the French contribution to the  Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG), he was deeply involved in planning,  prototyping, deploying and operating the global grid computing platform  designed for processing the data produced by CERN’s Large Hadron  Collider (LHC). Before serving as deputy director of IN2P3 computing  center he held positions leading engineering teams in charge of software  development, data center operations and grid computing. He has been  serving as member of international committees and as reviewer of  computing projects for scientific research appointed by governmental  agencies. During his career, he has been involved in several major  projects funded by the European Commission in the field of highly  distributed computing for science both in Europe and in Latin America.

Over  the years he has trained several dozens young scientists on software  development practices via the continued education divisions of France’s  CNRS, CEA and Ecole des Mines de Nantes. He was instructor of  computer networks for for engineering students at the Beijing University  of Aeronautics and Astronautics / Ecole Centrale de Pékin in Beijing  (China).

Mr. Hernandez received his BSc.  in computer science from University of Los Andes (Bogota, Colombia) and  his MSc. in computer science from University Lyon 1 (Lyon, France).
