Mission:
EOSCsecretariat.eu addresses the need for the set-up of an operational framework supporting the overall Governance of the EOSC. Led by a lean consortium of experienced and complementary partners, the project maintains a practical approach to address all the specific needs of the coordination structure expected by the EOSC.
EOSCsecretariat.eu adopts an optimal implementation in terms of coordinating approach, line-up of partners and allocation of budget for co-creation. It is also characterised by being neutral towards the community it is serving and by having a pragmatic approach that is fully dedicated to realising the outcomes of the EOSC design as stated by the Staff Working Document and adopted council conclusions.
Collaboration with ESCAPE:
ESCAPE was invited by EOSC Secretariat to join events focused on the EOSC implementation (EOSC Jam Session (June 2019), Building EOSC through the H2020 projects current status and future directions (September 2019) and EOSC Symposium (November 2019)) as a speakers, experts to contribute to the brainstorming discussions or through posters presentations.
Some members of ESCAPE are part of some EOSC Working Groups. In the Architecture WG (with 3 ESCAPE members - Kay Graf, Simone Campana and Tommaso Boccali), ESCAPE contribution is based on the innovation of distributed computing infrastructures and new computing architectures, e.g. federated computing infrastructures in the WLCG and EGEE/EGI initiatives, as well as national integrated supercomputing facilities (i.e. HPC centres, DiRAC, PRACE, etc). Regarding ESCAPE FAIR WG (with 1 ESCAPE member - Francoise Genova), ESCAPE is bringing knowledge of the disciplinary aspects of FAIRness, data stewardship, certification of trustworthy repositories, and semantic interoperability, and the point of view of researchers.
Following a request from EOSC Secretariat, ESCAPE Executive Board has released a Position Statement about EOSC. This document summarizes the current views and expectations of astronomy and particle physics partners in ESCAPE about EOSC. It is written keeping in mind the various exchanges that are taking place with the EOSC secretariat, governance and working groups. It is also written to follow up the EC chaired EOSC stakeholders' concertation events aiming at gathering the scientific views on the implementation of EOSC.
