The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) was formed in December 2011 to formalise relationships between the international partners and to centralise the leadership of the SKA project; formally its mission is to complete the detailed design of the SKA and prepare for construction; following negotiations over the last eighteen months implementation of a successor organisation, the SKA Observatory, is anticipated to begin with signing of the ‘SKA Convention’ in late 2018. The current Members of the SKA Organisation are funding bodies and government departments with an interest in realising the construction and operation of the SKA and delivering science for their respective communities.
